Position Description:
What You Will Do
The Acoustic Engineer II is an early career Subject Matter Expert (SME) in sound and vibration for HVAC equipment with a focus on data center chiller applications. You will work with a team of other sound and vibration experts, providing knowledge and insight as you review and interpret customer requirements.
You will provide sound and vibration technical support on a variety of projects ranging from product development to job specific sales and field support; working collaboratively with product engineering, product/project management, marketing, product technical services, and sales teams. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
How You Will Do It
- Engage regularly with customers and product teams to gain understanding of field noise requirements, local ordinances, community comfort and annoyance data, and sound testing specifications.
- Help drive product development efforts toward lower noise solutions to satisfy customer requirements.
- Provide testing support of air-cooled chillers utilizing AHRI standards, assisting with testing and data processing.
- Perform site evaluations to document in-situ chiller sound performance and further develop outdoor noise models to aid in customer design decision making.
- Review patents and research papers to understand state of the art and provide creative noise control solutions to challenges that arise during new product development.
- Ability to organize and participate in testing efforts (testing for internal use and 3rd party witnessing) including data analysis, generating reports, and communicating results to diverse audiences.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure best design practices are followed and alert product team to any sound and vibration risks.
- Assist with developing equipment sound ratings for publication by Sales and Marketing.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts on existing products and test procedures.
- Collaborate within cross-functional engineering teams as a sound and vibration expert.
Required
What we look for:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related science
- 2-4 years’ related engineering or consulting experience or advanced degree in lieu of experience
- Training in the field of acoustics and vibration
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred
- Advanced degree in acoustics or degree with a focus in acoustics
- Consulting experience in acoustics or noise control
- Knowledge of HVAC equipment applications, specifically data centers
- Experience in HVAC design
