Job Summary

As a Test Engineer, you will help develop Trane Commercial HVAC equipment products in the Laboratory. Your position encompasses many functions of laboratory engineering: standard tests development, test planning, test automation systems, instrumentation and process controls.  The ideal candidate enjoys project management, hands-on laboratory work and problem-solving in a team environment.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple laboratory testing projects.
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert on laboratory tests for specific lines of HVAC products.
  • Take ownership of test data quality.
  • Own test facility capability and ensure equipment has the necessary functions and reliability to produce quality data.
  • Develop standard test procedures in order to drive test efficiency and lab throughput.
  • Develop measurement systems for laboratory testing.
  • Develop expertise on advanced data acquisition equipment.
  • Design, modify and program control and automation systems.
  • Develop understanding of air moving system tests using wind tunnels
  • Primary technical resource for technicians responsible for running test equipment.
  • Develop experimental techniques necessary to drive new technology development.
  • Support Laboratory Operational Excellence process.
  • Some overnight travel, including international (<5%).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in HVAC product development.
  • Experience in acoustics and air-flow measurement.
  • Experience or knowledge in LMS Test.Lab.
  • Knowledge of industry acoustics test standards

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences, with 2+ years of product development experience required.


  • Master's Degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences, with 1+ years of product development experience required.

  • Must be a highly-motivated and team player.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. 
  • Ability to think outside of box and demonstrated efficiency improvements in past roles.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude is a plus.
