The Mechanical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) at the University of Hartford is seeking to fill multiple needs. Applications are invited for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2018.
Candidates must hold an undergraduate degree as well as an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline). ABDs will be considered provided the candidate can document a firm degree completion date. Candidates should have a background and expertise in either one of the following areas:
The Mechanical Engineering Department offers ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering (including concentrations in acoustics, energy engineering and sustainable design, manufacturing, and turbomachinery); and a unique Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Acoustical Engineering/Music; as well as graduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering.
University of Hartford faculty are expected to excel in teaching and advising students at both undergraduate and graduate levels; engage in independent, collaborative, and/or cross-disciplinary peer-reviewed scholarship through intra-and extramurally funded research; and provide service to the academic and professional community. Depending on the expertise, the successful candidate with the mechanical engineering design background will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in solid mechanics including laboratory courses, mechanical engineering design, elements of machine design, mechanical engineering capstone design, and design for product realization. The successful candidate with the acoustics background will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in vibrations, acoustics, noise control, acoustics capstone design, as well as mechanics and acoustics design-related courses.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in CETA Solid Mechanics / Manufacturing / Metrology and in Acoustics Laboratories, including reverberation and anechoic chambers. There are significant research collaboration opportunities with faculty within CETA as well as across the University. Opportunities for scholarly collaboration also exist through the CETA Engineering Applications Center, which provides students and faculty the opportunity to work with industrial partners to solve real–world problems.
