Tour #1: Portland International Airport Ground Run-Up Enclosure (GRE) Tour - SOLD OUT

Tour Description: A tour of the Portland International Airport (PDX) Ground Run-Up Enclosure (GRE) has been organized as part of Noise-Con 2011 to give those attendees interested in airport community noise an opportunity to see first-hand how such an enclosure is used to reduce noise in the community.  The PDX GRE was completed in March 2001, and it was first placed into service on June 5, 2001. The facility was developed to address complaints about noise radiating into the community during late-night hours from commercial jet and turboprop aircraft engine testing which was required before an aircraft could be placed back into service.  The facility has been considered a success by both the citizens of North Portland who directly benefited from the facility and the Port of Portland who operates the airport.

Tour #2: Huntair Factory Tour and Air Handler Demonstration - SOLD OUT

Tour Description: Huntair is the inventor of Fanwall Technology, which utilizes an array of small fans in air handling units instead of the traditional single large fan.  Huntair extends an invitation for Noise-Con participants to visit the factory for a live demonstration of an air handling unit with a Fanwall system compared to three equivalent units with a belt-drive centrifugal fan, twin plug fans and a vaneaxial fan.  Attendees will be able to see, hear and feel each air handler in operation and make subjective comparisons.  Instruments will also be available for those who want to take or examine vibration or sound data.  For more information regarding the Huntair Fanwall Technology please click here.  The Huntair factory is located in Tualatin, about 10 miles south of downtown Portland.  Roundtrip transportation will be provided and the tour and transport will last approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
