Session Titles and Descriptions for Noise-Con 2008

Technical Activity 1.0: Sources and Propagation

1.1 Noise Modeling and Mitigation, Including Sonic Boom -
Go back - Submit Abstract

INCE Organizer: Kai Ming Li, Vic Sparrow

We invite papers on source and propagation modeling for noise, prediction and measurement of effectiveness of mitigation strategies, and impact of local environments on noise impact quantification. Contributions on sonic boom propagation and structural transmission are welcome. Papers are also invited on global models of environmental noise that include multiple distributed sources, e.g., combined road, rail and airport noise.

1.2 Fan noise - Generation Mechanisms (joint with ASME NCAD) - Go back - Submit Abstract to Noise-Con - Submit Abstract to NCAD - What's the difference?

INCE Organizer: Tim Brungart, ASME NCAD Organizer: Michael Jonson

The fan noise session welcomes papers on general fan noise modeling, measurement, reduction and case studies.

1.4 Modeling of Emissions and Imission
s - Go back - Submit Abstract

INCE Organizers: Micah Downing, Kai Ming Li

We invite papers describing models of noise generation mechanisms and sound prediction, and papers describing models of how sound impacts people, animals and structures.

1.6 Flow Tones and Instabilities (joint with ASME NCAD) - Go back - Submit Abstract to Noise-Con - Submit Abstract to NCAD - What's the difference?

INCE Organizer: Mike Lucas, ASME NCAD Organizers: Robert Tomko, Kristin Lai Fook Cody

This session seeks basic research, applied research, and industrial experiences in the area of flow tone generation and instabilities. Flow tones include fluid/acoustic or fluid/structure interactions causing flow induced noise resulting in discrete frequency tones. Instabilities include fluid forced vibrations that result in noise or vibration of structures or components. Studies may be experimental, theoretical, or numerical in nature and can address efforts to understand noise and vibration mechanisms and/or methods to control or reduce noise and vibration.

1.7 Noise Source Localization (joint with ASME NCAD) - Go back - Submit Abstract to Noise-Con - Submit Abstract to NCAD - What's the difference?

INCE Organizer: Micah Downing, ASME NCAD Organizer: Jason Anderson

New and innovative methods of noise source localization and characterization; Development of new localization measurement and signal processing techniques; Implementation of source localization techniques (for example, beamforming or acoustic holography) in novel applications to identify new understandings in sound source distributions and mechanisms.

1.8 Sound Propagation in the Atmosphere (joint with ASME NCAD) - Go back - Submit Abstract to Noise-Con - Submit Abstract to NCAD - What's the difference?

INCE Organizer: D. Keith Wilson, ASME NCAD Organizer: Charlie Zheng

We invite papers on recent progress in understanding and simulating sound propagation outdoors as it relates to noise control and annoyance.

1.9 Ultrasonic Communicatione - Go back - Submit Abstract

ASME NCAD Organizer: Henry Scarton

Papers on ultrasonic communications are invited.
