News and Information
NoiseCon 2007 featured 188 technical papers written by noise control experts across a wide range of disciplines, presented at 39 sessions in Reno Nevada, 22-24 October 2007. We’re thankful to the many INCE members who organized sessions for the conference, several of whom did so for the first time this year. We’re also pleased to note that 27 of the papers were written by students, with five winning $1,000 student paper awards from the INCE foundation.
Our morning plenary talks were exceptional. Click on the links below to access viewgraphs of two of the talks, and a list of references for the other (Beltman and Baugh).
Along with the usual technical areas, a few emerging topics were addressed in NoiseCon 2007:
- Impulsive sound propagation, where low frequency sound waves are affected by weather and ground conditions (8 papers),
- Engineering noise controls in the mining industry, particularly their regulatory aspects (9 papers), and
- Noise control for hospitals (9 papers).
Also this year, we had a strong turnout by the following INCE technical activities:
- Measurement and Control of Product Noise Emissions (which includes Information Technology noise) (26 papers),
- Transportation Noise (31 papers), and
- Community noise (41 papers).
You can buy a CD with all of the NoiseCon 2007 papers from Bookmasters, or individual papers from this and other NoiseCons from our AIP server.
Along with the technical paper presentations, a special workshop organized by George Maling and Bill Lang on Engineering Education in Noise was held at the conference. While there are no proceedings from the workshop, George and Bill plan to document the key findings from the discussions in a future issue of Noise News International.
The vendor exhibition was strong this year – with 35 companies presenting their noise control materials, measurement systems, and modeling software to NoiseCon participants.
We acknowledge the generosity of:
- the National Council of Acoustical Consultants (NCAC), who co-sponsored this year’s conference social at the National Automobile Museum, along with a student pizza lunch;
- ACO Pacific, who sponsored the manufacturing of these CDs, and
- Kinetics Noise Control, who contributed to the Museum social food and beverages.
Finally, we’re grateful to the paper authors and conference attendees for making this year’s NoiseCon 2007 a success. We hope you continue to participate in future NoiseCons. By the way, NoiseCon 2008 will be held July 28-31 in Dearborn Michigan.
