Project Leader - Robust Ride Quality (Structural Acoustics)

United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) is seeking a candidate to lead the Robust Ride Quality (RRQ) project within the Otis Program Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing innovative tools and advanced technologies that contribute to exceptional ride quality in elevator and escalator systems. The RRQ project leader will provide technical leadership for research and development activities, develop project content, manage project costs and schedules, and report on project performance to senior management. The position requires a strong technical background in structural acoustics and a broad understanding of mechanical and electromechanical systems. Required leadership abilities include a solid program management background, a proven capability to lead diverse multidisciplinary and international teams, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Other responsibilities of this role include the following:
- Interact with UTRC and Otis senior management to develop R&D strategies and define future business opportunities that ensure positive business impact;
- Provide technology and business solutions in response to Otis business requirements;
- Provide strategic guidance and create high value technical and project opportunities in elevator noise and vibration through partnering with leading worldwide institutions (university, government, professional organizations), acquisition of external contracts, and technology leveraging;
- Mentor and develop members of a global team;
- Provide timely, accurate and detailed reports and presentations;
- Foster development of creativity and technical excellence in others;
- Author technical papers & be active in internal and external networks.

EDUCATION: Candidate must possess an M.S. in Acoustics or related engineering field (e.g., Mechanical or Aerospace engineering), with specialization in structural acoustics. Candidates with a Ph.D. in the engineering disciplines noted above, or an MBA, are preferred.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: - Expert knowledge and minimum of 10 years of industrial or academic experience in structural acoustics modeling, experimental validation, and system-level design
- Minimum of 3 years experience in project/program management related activities
- Experience leading R&D programs, dealing directly with customers, leading a group of exceptional associates, and interacting with senior management
- Thorough understanding of physics basis and practical applications/limitations of structural acoustics analytical/computational tools (SEA, BEA, FEA, EFEA, etc.)
- Demonstrated application of modeling and experimental methods for source identification, prediction, and assessment of noise and vibration, and detailed design of active and/or passive noise control solutions
